Suicide affects all people. When working with families who have lost a loved one to suicide, there are a lot of intense emotions. Guilt and shame are part of the emotions that need to be processed, and in some ways challenged. Many people feel that they are to blame for the loss of their loved ones. Parents will say, “it was my job to protect them, and I didn’t know the extent of their suffering.” There is a lot of help for those who are experiencing suicidal thoughts
